Just finished joinery 1 yesterday. It was an excellent course. Really covered a lot in 4 days and the final day project helped to bring it all together.

We had a full class of 8 student which worked well. A lot of individual attention, but also enough space to get on with things.

Just working out which course to do next now.

Highly recommended!

The London school of furniture making is a gem for everyone in London, particularly in North London now it has a new home in buzzing Camden.

I just completed the 4 day core skill 1 course (spread over 2 weekends) and really enjoyed learning and practice the basic joinery skills.

Sam was a fantastic teacher and super friendly. I got to see Helen a few times during the course and she was super easy going too.

The course was challenging but super fun at the same time, and you learn to appreciate doing everything with just few simple tools and your hands. Time definitely flies by fast when you are chiseling away :)

I highly recommend this place to anyone who is remotely interested in wood work / making something yourself or just spending 4 quality days with other top notch relaxed humans.

Just finished my second course there (first Fitted Furniture and now Power Tools) and couldn’t recommend it more highly.
Helen and Sam are such great teachers and so incredibly knowledgeable.
As someone who is at the very beginning of my woodworking journey, I left both courses with a lot more confidence and knowledge than I expected.
The format of the courses is the perfect balance between learning and practicing and both groups I was part of were incredibly friendly and contributed to a very relaxed environment.

The Dovetail Making course was very good.

Sam, our instructor was excellent. He was extremely knowledgeable and his teaching style was great.
He demonstrated making each of the joints, and was on hand to help us when needed.

We were also given help on how to use the tools, body position when using them, a brief chisel sharpening lesson was also given us, anything related to the tasks which we were doing.

The pace of the course was good, even for a beginner such as me. We got to take home our dovetail joints.

I would recommend this course.

I recently attended the Core Skills: Understanding Wood with a group of colleagues. We had a fantastic few days with Helen, who was great fun and really informative. The course itself was a nice balance of theory, practical and visits to specialist suppliers/makers. We all work with timber to varying degrees, so had some knowledge of the material and working with it, but wanted to start filling in the gaps in our knowledge - this course did just that! We're all more confident in our ability to identify timbers, and left with a good understanding of the structure and properties. I attended the CORE SKILLS: Joinery Level 1
It was part for the love of wood and a desire to learn how to make something physical in this digital world and part therapy.
The physical world is much harder than using a keyboard.  I've never been so tired.

Helen was our teacher this week.  She was welcoming and friendly.  She knew her subject and was passionate about it.   She was able to keep us all in check and explained what to, how to do and what we did wrong - always prepared to help and provide guidance when required.  She could hear mistakes being made from 50m away and wasn't afraid to tell you - a good thing as you learnt from those mistakes.

I met a friendly group of people whilst on the course and everyone helped everyone else.

I am motivated to do more and have already signed up for the dove tail course later in the year.  The courses here cover all aspects of carpentry.

The facilities were good and all equipment was provided and was of a good standard.
